The crash issue seems to be due to the custom ROM. It is crashing because it can't init the EQ properly. This is something I read on a forums for cyanogen. I still have to investigate a little more.
If you could reproduce the issue and collect the logs could help me find out if this is indeed the issue.

There is currently and issue with Android 4.x in regards to streaming. When the screen is shutdown the network speed is slowed down and sometimes completely turned off. This is most likely the issue.

Ok, so using FFMpeg engine you are able to stream correct? Thanks for the logs! I did see where things are not working on your phone. I have created a bug ticket and we'll see if we can get this resolved.
Checkout the latest beta. It contains smart auto reconnect feature that will make dropouts kinda disappear. :)
Thanks for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are aware of the Android UI Guidelines and understand it makes design and layout flexibility much easier across screen sizes and densities.
We aren't using those methods because we are all about trying to make something that stands out. This idea we have comes with a complexity price to pay. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into account. I sent link of this post to the graphics designer to read ;)

Thanks for the feedback! This is an interesting request. I would like to take a closer look at it. Do you have a sample playlist you could upload here? It doesn't necessarily have to point to valid data just want to see what you kinda have.
